Unique ways to stay fit and healthy!

As most of us are (hopefully) enjoying some much deserved time off, we thought it would be a great time to talk fitness.  We know better than most that teacher holidays don’t necessarily mean relaxation and recharging the batteries, especially if you have your own little ones at home.  We often have lots of extra work, and the holidays seem to be the only time we have to get it done.  But having a little break from school is also a great time to check in with yourself and make sure you are balancing your personal development with your professional responsibilities.  To reach your full potential, you need to make sure to facilitate a happy and healthy you.  Keeping our bodies and minds healthy is essential to helping us face the stresses and challenges that come our way.  So if you are worried you might not be allocating enough focus to wellness, we might have some interesting suggestions that could help.

If you aren’t someone with a strict gym schedule already in place, you might find yourself struggling to find ways to stay active that you actually enjoy.  As our daily tasks mount up, it can be hard to prioritise your fitness, especially if you haven’t found an activity that motivates you.  If you are looking for more unique and fun ways to stay healthy, we have rounded up a few options that don’t feature a boring treadmill in site!

Trekking adventure

Why not spend an afternoon channelling your inner John Wayne with a session of horse riding in Mushrif Park?  Not only can you enjoy the beautiful desert landscape, friendly wildlife and lush greenery, but your turn in the saddle will feel like a Wild West adventure.  The experts at the Mushrif Equestrian and Polo Club have horses for riders of all levels, from beginners to seasoned pros, so you will always feel comfortable.

Fast fun

This activity is so much fun you won’t even notice how many calories are dropping off!  A trip to your nearest water park is a wonderful way to get outside and do something active, especially if you have a family.  Running around all day, including up and down a lot of stairs, whilst splashing about in cool water is a surprisingly good workout.  A full day out can sometimes burn up to 1,000 calories, plus your kids will love you!   The best news, there are so many to choose from!  From old favourites Wild Wadi and Aquaventure to the new Laguna Water Park at La Mer and, if you fancy a nice drive, Wadi Adventure in Al Ain.

The next Tiger Ronaldo

Yes, your eyes do not deceive you, we are talking footgolf.  The Address Montgomerie has launched a brand new way to stay active and have fun that, in their words, combines “the strategy and precision of golf with the skill and stamina of football”.  If you haven’t ever really understood golf and always felt like football wasn’t enough of a challenge, then this could be the sport you have been waiting for!   Plus, if you get off early enough, games are only AED 50 on Sundays!

Vent your feelings

If you haven’t yet heard of The Smash Room, then you are missing out.  Not only will you bust some serious calories here, you might also find that it is one of the best stress relievers of all time.  The perfect way to combine fuelling your mental and physical wellness, this destination allows you to grab a hammer (and goggles) and literally start smashing things up!  Kids driving you crazy?  Too much homework to mark?  Spouse forgot your anniversary?  Friends being annoying?  Vent all of your frustrations with some good old fashioned destruction!

A different class

If you are looking for something a bit closer to the more traditional gym-style workouts, but still with an edge, you could opt of one of the new, off-the-wall classes that are available around town.  Budding dancers can flex their moves at Hip Hop Cardio which has classes in Business Bay and Marina.Prepare for epic tunes and some serious calorie burning.  Animal lovers might enjoy Kangoo Jumps, which is a very unique class in which you wear specialist shoes that generate a trampoline-like feeling of weightlessness as you jump like a kangaroo!  You can also burn up to 1,000 calories per session.  You can also test your balance and work your core at a pool session with a difference courtesy of Float UAE.  Their forty minute HIIT workouts are done whilst balancing on water so you might find your squat game gets taken to a whole new level!
