Festive Joy This Holiday Season

Given that 2020 has been an extremely tough year for everyone, especially teachers and students, it is no surprise that we are all in need of a little holiday joy!  December and the New Year is packed full of opportunities to immerse yourself in the festive spirit and celebrate with friends and family, as safely as possible of course.   This year many expat teachers and families won’t be able to travel home for the holidays, but that doesn’t mean they can’t enjoy a little taste of the familiar.  Dubai is packed full of amazing activities and entertainment, available throughout the winter break.  Best of all, they come with the added benefit of lovely sunny weather!  Here is our round up of the things you won’t want to miss this holiday season!

Christmas Markets

If you have been counting the minutes until you can listen to some jingle bells, sip on hot chocolate and introduce the kids to Santa, then you will love this array of Christmas Markets going on this year in Dubai.  From the family-friendly magical garden at the Grand Hyatt to the first-ever Winter Wonderland in Mall of the Emirates, there is so much to see and do, and taste and buy.  There are light shows and ice skating, snowball fights and reindeer, plus lots of international flavours and customs to explore.

Cook a Turkey

Or more conveniently, have the whole thing cooked for you.  If you don’t fancy slaving over a hot stove or have always wondered what a traditional Christmas turkey feast tastes like, this could be the ideal choice for you.  A host of restaurants and hotels are providing complete ‘Turkey Packages’ with giant birds, delicious trimmings, yummy sides and even sweet deserts.  They can deliver it to your home so that you can stay safe and indulge with your loved ones, without having to set foot in your kitchen.

Let it Snow, Let it Snow, Let it Snow

There are few places in Dubai better suited to festive fun than Ski Dubai.  You can give some winter sports a go, with fantastic ski and snowboarding instructors, or take a walk with some very friendly penguins.  They even have their own Winter Wonderland where you can meet Santa and play in the Snow Park.  This year they are also launching the first ever cinema in the snow, complete with popcorn and peppermint hot chocolate where you can watch magical movies like The Grinch, Last Christmas and Frozen 2.

Festive Feasting

Now that we can safely meet in small groups and all of the venues have taken such great Covid precautions, it is the ideal time to indulge in some fantastic food and festive inspired menus.  A range of hotels have launched some festive Afternoon Teas which are ideal for taking little ones or having a refined few hours with friends.  There will be mince pies and hot cocoa and even the chance to make your own gingerbread figures!  If you are looking for something more in the party-style you won’t be able to resist the banging festive tunes of these Christmas brunches.  Perfect for marking the occasion in style, they are packed full of culinary treats, traditional decorations and surprise Santa visits.  They also offer a fantastic opportunity to try new flavours and benefit from international diversity on offer in Dubai so that you can start making new traditions to treasure with your loved ones.

We hope you have a wonderful winter break and holiday season, no matter how you will be celebrating!
